A conversation with a flood-affected resident in Taree sparked the idea for Adopt a Street – Flood Support. Where we Began
In the wake of the May 2025 floods along the Mid North Coast, we joined our neighbours in the clean-up efforts. The generosity was immediate and overwhelming. Locals were eager to help, but many weren’t sure how to make a lasting impact beyond the initial crisis.
One weekend, as the rain continued to fall and we returned from the local Recovery Centre, we began to imagine what long-term, meaningful community support could look like. We wanted something that was practical, sustainable, and deeply local, a model that could unite people, scale across the Coast, and focus help where it was needed most.
Adopt a Street – Flood Support was born in a garage in Port Macquarie. From that small beginning, the initiative has now grown to connect communities across the entire Mid North Coast.
